Orthognathic surgery treats facial deformities to achieve facial harmony, proper occlusion and temporomandibular joint stability.
It is performed through incisions in the oral cavity without leaving external scars.
The facial deformities are very common (affects approximately 10% of the population) and they are caused due to the increase or failure in the growth of one or more of the bones of the face such as jaw, maxilla or chin.
In most cases orthodontic treatment is needed before and after surgery to correct malocclusion, and normalize the position of the facial bones.
